MORRIS JONES
Restaurant, Cocktail & Wine Bar
Morris Jones is a restaurant, cocktail and wine bar unlike most others. Set inside an 1887 heritage warehouse in Windsor, the space pairs a Californian take on modern Japanese cuisine with an atmosphere that’s equal parts intimate and electric — verdant, considered, and designed to linger in.
The menu leans into what the venue calls cali-jap: adventurous, modern, and built around the kind of food that prompts conversation. The cocktail and wine list follows the same philosophy — exquisite without being precious. On the walls, a personal collection of 1960s Japanese artwork curated by renowned artist David Bromley gives the space a cultural depth that no fitout budget can manufacture.
Morris Jones is a venue that understands hospitality in the fullest sense — not just what’s on the plate, but how an evening feels from arrival to last drink.
The Work
Critical Design was brought in to create event collateral for Morris Jones Fridays — a recurring evening event that needed its own identity within the broader venue brand.
The deliverables centred on launch party artwork and seasonal flyer posters, including a Summer Nights launch edition and a Winter Fridays follow-up. Each piece carries the MJ monogram and draws its mood from the season it represents — warm Californian sunset tones and palm silhouettes for summer; deep midnight blues and snowscapes for winter. The script lettering and spaced serif typography reflect the venue’s blend of elegance and ease.
The result is a suite of event collateral that feels cohesive across seasons while giving each occasion its own distinct character — the kind of work that gets kept, shared, and noticed.
