Instant Rockstar has been doing things their own way since 2000. Born and raised in Melbourne, they’ve spent over two decades pushing the boundaries of unisex haircare — drawing inspiration from festivals and fashion, breaking category rules, and refusing to be boxed in by what a grooming brand is supposed to look like. They source plant-based, natural, and lab-made ingredients, and they take their responsibility to people and the planet seriously. They’re not a niche curiosity. They’re one of Australia’s leading styling and grooming brands, and they got there by being genuinely, consistently themselves.
When Instant Rockstar came to us, the energy was already there. Our job was to give it shape — to build a visual identity, collateral, and advertising materials that could hold the attitude without diluting it. Work that felt as at home at a music festival as it did on a shelf or a screen.
That’s the balance Critical Design exists to strike. We’re not here to impose an aesthetic. We’re here to find the truth in a brand and make it impossible to ignore — with craft, with consistency, and without overcomplicating things.
